Sun, Salt and Easter Camping: A Gentle Skin Reset

Easter camping is part of the Cayman calendar for many families. Days outdoors can also mean layers of sunscreen, salt water, sand, smoke and less sleep than anyone admits on Tuesday morning.

The skin reset afterwards should be gentler than the weekend was.

Clean without scrubbing the holiday away

Use lukewarm water and a mild cleanser to remove sunscreen and surface residue. Sand already provides plenty of friction, so skip rough body scrubs on skin that feels tender or sun-exposed. Pat dry, then apply a plain moisturiser while skin is still slightly damp.

For the face, return to the products you already know. This is not the moment to open three samples from the bottom of a travel bag. If skin feels hot, sore or visibly burned, avoid waxing, peels and exfoliating facials until it has recovered.

After long days outdoors, simple cleansing and moisturising are usually enough.

Treat sunburn seriously

Move out of the sun, cool the skin gently and drink water. Do not apply ice directly. Blistering, severe pain, fever, dizziness or a burn affecting a large area may need medical advice. Children and people with health concerns deserve extra caution.

For future days outside, broad-spectrum water-resistant SPF 30 or higher, shade, hats and protective clothing work together. Reapply after swimming or heavy sweating and approximately every two hours while outdoors.

Reset the routine, not the whole person

Sleep, regular meals and clean clothing often do more for the post-camping feeling than an elaborate treatment. Once skin is calm, a customised facial can help with professional cleansing and hydration, but it should not be booked over active sunburn.

The Cayman Islands Public Lands Commission publishes current camping rules and guidance. Check official information before setting up, leave the site clean and treat wildlife and neighbouring campers with care.

Good aftercare is wonderfully unglamorous: rinse, moisturise, protect and rest. Your skin does not need punishment for having enjoyed the beach.
